Cowboys Trade Pitch Lands Explosive $8.4 Million Seahawks Star

When it comes to positions that the Dallas Cowboys need to beef up, running back is often the first thing that pops up in conversation. The Cowboys could certainly use a veteran in this position, and it’s suffice to say that Dallas’ offense would be greatly improved by adding a longstanding running back, looking at their depth chart.

Jerry Jones hasn’t seemed too worried about the team’s running back situation for a while, so maybe it’s more of a concern to the fans than the Cowboys’ internal staff, but it would sure feel great to head into the 2025 season with some assurance in this position.

There’s one guy who will be a free agent after the 2025 season who could be a great fit for the Cowboys. He’s struggled with some injuries, but when he’s on, he’s pretty unbeatable.

Sometimes even a great player gets traded away from their team for a multitude of reasons. Maybe they’re too expensive, or perhaps that player’s numbers are down a bit and the team isn’t willing to gamble on the future.

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III has shown that he has the ability to be a star. During his rookie year in 2022, the Michigan State University product rushed for 1,050 yards with 4.6 yards per carry, and in 2023, he ran for 905 yards and 4.1 yards per carry. Those two seasons were magical, and it showed why he was one of the most sought-after draft picks in 2022.

However, in 2024, Walker delt with some injuries and a difficult offensive line, so he rushed for a lackluster 573 yards and 3.7 yards per carry in 11 games.

But, Walker does have the talent. He also has a contract that’s up after the 2025 season.

This pitch would bring Walker to the Cowboys in exchange for 2026 and 2027 fourth-round draft picks. Yes, it would hurt the Cowboys to lose those draft picks, but they would be getting what could be an elite running back for years to come.

It would be interesting to see Walker train under new Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who has a solid background in offensive coaching and was the Cowboys’ offensive coach for two years before getting the promotion. The move would also enable Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald, who is entering into his second season with the team, to start shaping the lineup in the post-Pete Carroll era.

Will it happen? It would be a big surprise, but, boy, would this move shake up the Cowboys going into their inaugural season with Schottenheimer. It would be fun to watch, too.

Walker’s rookie contract was for $8.4 million, but according to Spotrac, Walker has a current market value of signing a four-year deal worth around $41.6 million, making it an annual salary of $10.4 per season. So, it’s really a question when it comes to whether the Seahawks will be willing to dish out that kind of money, despite the obvious talent in Walker. They might just opt to watch Walker this season and decide if they believe he’s worth the investment.
