On the field, the Chiefs are going through their final week of voluntary OTAs. Off of it, they made a couple of roster moves on Wednesday.
Kansas City has waived defensive tackle Siaki Ika, who they signed to the practice squad back in December of 2024. He never appeared in a game with the Chiefs.
Ika was selected by the Browns in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He appeared in five games with Cleveland that season, including its wild-card matchup against the Houston Texans. Ika was unable to log a single tackle on 104 snaps played, but did record a pass defensed. K.C. now has five DTs on its roster, which include Chris Jones, Omarr Norman-Lott, Jerry Tillery, Fabien Lovett, Marlon Tuipulotu, and Coziah Izzard.
In a corresponding move, the Chiefs have signed tight end Kevin Foelsch. Originally signing with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2024, Foelsch participated in training camp with the New York Jets. He was then claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Eagles, spending most of the season on their practice squad before being released in December.
In five years with the Division II New Haven Chargers, Foelsch recorded 73 receptions for 660 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also earned Northeast-10 Conference first team honors as a senior in 2023. The Chiefs now have seven tight ends on their roster, which include Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, Jared Wiley, Robert Tonyan, Jake Briningstool, Tre Watson, and Foelsch.
With Wiley continuing to rehab from the torn ACL he suffered last season and Watson also banged up, bringing in another TE was a logical move. While Kelce and Gray are obvious locks for K.C.’s roster, there will be stiff competition for depth behind them. The Chiefs typically carry four TEs on their 53-man roster, and usually have one on the practice squad as well.
