The Kansas City Chiefs are the class of the AFC until another franchise knocks them off their place at the top of the totem pole.

One way rival organizations have tried to do this is by cherry-picking the top performers off Kansas City’s roster via free agency or trades. Unfortunately for one AFC franchise, it appears as though their attempt to bolster their roster by making a trade with the Chiefs has already backfired.

Now, the two-time Super Bowl champion is being called out publicly by his head coach which is never the scenario a player wants to find themselves in.

Ex-Chief Star L’Jarius Sneed Failing to Meet New Team’s Expectations

Chiefs star L'Jarius Sneed's absence from practice gets heartwarming update

The Tennessee Titans gave up multiple draft picks to swing a trade for L’Jarius Sneed before the start of the 2024 season. Tennessee then gave Sneed a massive contract that guaranteed him $51.5 million, and, so far, he has only appeared in five games for the Titans.

Those five games have been anything but spectacular, either. Over those five starts for the Titans, Sneed recorded 23 total tackles. That’s all that he provided Tennessee on the defensive side of the ball. Needless to say, this isn’t the production the Titans’ front office hoped to see when they acquired the veteran.

While things couldn’t be going worse for Tennessee following this trade, all has been well on Kansas City’s side as the franchise successfully got out in front of the knee and quad issues Sneed has dealt with in recent years. Not only did Kansas City avoid giving a lucrative contract to a player who appears to be damaged goods, but the Chiefs’ front office landed a quality player via the compensation sent over by Tennessee by selecting Ashton Gillotte in the third round of the 2025 draft.

Sneed certainly contributed to Kansas City’s success during his tenure with the franchise. However, all good things must come to an end, and the Chiefs knew when the appropriate time to cut ties with the veteran was.
