NEWS: Former NFL QB Predicts Dolphins Trade for Browns’ Rookie QB

The Miami Dolphins are facing a difficult reality with their quarterback situation: Tua Tagovailoa has a risky injury history, and the backup quarterbacks on the roster are not potential future starters.

Miami’s quarterback room is made up of Tagovailoa, Zach Wilson, and rookie seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers, but one former NFL quarterback is making a bold prediction that might shock you.

According to Kurt Benkert on X, who played in the NFL from 2018-2022, the Dolphins may look to target a rookie quarterback from the Browns.

That quarterback is Dillon Gabriel, whom Cleveland drafted in the third round at 94th overall, 50 picks before they took Shedeur Sanders.

Gabriel is heralded for his poise, accuracy, and mobility. That description, coupled with his 5’11” stature, depicts a very similar image to what Tagovailoa currently offers Miami at quarterback.

“They liked him [Gabriel] a ton and saw him as an incredible scheme fit with athletic upside and were going to take him a few picks later, but then the Browns drafted him,” Benkert posted.

Hearing that may raise questions about Quinn Ewers, who Dolphins fans were hoping could tap into the potential that made him the No. 1 overall recruit coming out of high school back in 2021. Benkert said the Dolphins’ decision to take Ewers was likely made because Gabriel was taken before they could draft him.

“Nothing against Ewers, they took him at a spot they liked – but it’s believed the preference was Gabriel earlier in the draft,” Benkert said.

Benkert predicts that a potential trade between the Dolphins and Browns would not be made until the end of the preseason. Until then, all eyes will be on the Browns’ quarterback battle.
