For the past three seasons, the New England Patriots have slowly tried to emerge from a downfall.

The franchise that won six Super Bowls since 2001 hasn’t been the same since Tom Brady and Bill Belichick left.

Last year, Jerod Mayo took over as head coach then was fired after one season and a 4-13 record.

Former Tennessee Titans head coach and Patriots player Mike Vrabel was brought in to restore the organization to relevancy.

In addition, quarterback Drake Maye enters his second season hoping to improve, and wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been signed to boost the offense.

Apparently, New England also tried to add wide receiver Chris Godwin but he re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“The Bucs made their best offer, and then the Patriots came hard, offering an average of $30 million per year on a multiyear deal, he says. And it’s possible there was more juice to be squeezed there. The Buccaneers’ offer was for three years at $66 million, averaging $22 million per season,” Dan Pompei of The Athletic reported, via Dov Kleiman.

During a career that began in 2017, Godwin won the Super Bowl with Tampa Bay and has been named to the Pro Bowl.

In 2022, he had 104 receptions, followed by 83 in 2023, and 50 in 2024 before an ankle injury wiped out the final 10 games of his season.
