The Nick Chubb era is now in the rearview mirror of the Cleveland Browns, with the running back signing a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Houston Texans.

The former Georgia Bulldogs star tailback spent his first seven years in the NFL in a Browns uniform, and over the course, racked up 6,843 rushing yards and 51 touchdowns on 1,340 carries. He also earned Pro Bowl nods in four straight years from 2019 to 2022.

Without a doubt, Chubb left a big mark on the franchise, as one of the best to ever put on the team’s colors. While he’s no longer with the Browns, he will always be viewed in high regard, as further highlighted in the statement made by Cleveland owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam, where it’s implied that the running back will one day be welcomed into the franchise’s Ring of Honor .

“Nick has always been about hard work and letting his play on the field do the talking for him. We are so grateful for the many moments he created on the field that we will never forget. One moment that stands out most is him stepping out of bounds at the 3-yard line instead of scoring after a 59-yard run to ensure a victory in a game against the Texans in 2020. Nick always puts winning above any personal accolade, and that is what makes him so special. Thank you for being a Brown, Nick, and we look forward to the day we celebrate your career as a member of our Ring of Honor.”

With Chubb gone, the Browns will proceed with a running back group that currently features Jerome Ford, who led Cleveland with 565 rushing yards in 2024, rookies Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson, and Pierre Strong Jr.

The Browns’ move to take two running backs in the 2025 NFL draft in Judkins and Sampson was viewed as a big indication of Chubb’s fate in Cleveland. It remains to be seen whether Judkins or Sampson will flourish on the ground for the Browns, but they will have their chances to prove themselves in the training camp and in the coming 2025 campaign.
