Kansas City Chiefs reunite with DB Mike Edwards on a one-year deal

The Kansas City Chiefs parted ways with a veteran starting safety during free agency with Justin Reid’s departure. They are adding a familiar face on Thursday, who is back for another shot at a Super Bowl title.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs are re-signing safety Mike Edwards on a one-year deal after a season away from the team. The veteran defensive back played last season with the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers after winning a Super Bowl with Kansas City in 2023.

During the 2023 season, Edwards recorded 51 total tackles, five passes defended, and an interception for the Chiefs on the way to a Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers. In his career that spans 83 games, Edwards had 30 starts, tallying 27 passes defensed with eight interceptions.

The 28-year-old became a trusted member of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s unit in his lone season in Kansas City. A reliable option that is welcomed in a secondary that features several young players seeking an opportunity to step up in 2025.
