Patrick Mahomes has returned to the Kansas City Chiefs‘ offseason program with vigor, already showcasing the kind of creativity and skill that can leave defenses scrambling in a worrying message ahead of the 2025/26 NFL season for their rivals.

Despite having been back at practice for only a week, the quarterback is performing impossible plays that hint at the dynamic season ahead, even as the team begins to adjust without relying solely on his traditional top target, Travis Kelce.

Footage from the Chiefs‘ voluntary OTAs reveals the 29-year-old confidently executing several behind-the-back passes, a trademark move that has repeatedly rattled opponents during critical moments in games.

This playful yet precise approach not only demonstrates his comfort and command on the field but also sets a tone of relentless confidence for his teammates, and sends a message that they can trust him.

Mahomes’ ability to execute a behind-the-back pass for a crucial first down could easily spark a game-changing drive, showcasing why the Chiefs remain one of the NFL’s most formidable offenses and why they;ve enjoyed so much success since 2018.

Despite the heavy loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, where they were outmatched 40-22, the team remains far from finished and Mahomes’ dynamic inventions only show their spirit is far from broken.

With targets such as Kelce, Xavier Worthy, Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice as well as Isiah Pacheco in the running back role, could Kansas City be a force to be reckoned with in the AFC once again?

However, whilst the Kansas City have long been the dominant force in the AFC West, their supremacy is increasingly under threat as challenges from the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers could emerge..

In fact, it’s the latter that the analyst, Matt Holder, believes could emerge to challenge Andy Reid in the 2025/26 NFL season warning that the Chiefs reign is not guaranteed, and dominance doesn’t last forever.

“Kansas City lost more than it gained this offseason,” Holder told Bleacher Report. “Trading away All-Pro guard Joe Thuney while letting Swiss Army knife safety Justin Reid and up-and-coming pass-rusher Tershawn Wharton walk in free agency.

“Because of that, there are question marks for the Chiefs‘ offensive line, secondary and pass rush, which could result in some regression this fall.”

With head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Joe Hortiz entering their second year in LA, and making solid improvements during the spring, Holder tips them to challenge in the AFC West.

He notes they face some hurdles, such as losing key defensive players including Joey Bosa and Morgan Fox, but that the emergence of pass rusher Tuli Tuipulotu is expected to strengthen their defense significantly. Is it enough to challenge Mahomes‘ merry men?
