BREAKING : Cowboys finally get the Micah Parsons update they needed before minicamp

This should quiet any talk of Parsons’ leadership ability.

Jacksonville Jaguars v Dallas Cowboys

Another offseason, another All-Pro player the Dallas Cowboys need to get under a new contract. This year that man is edge rusher Micah Parsons, who is entering the last year of his contract and is looking for a big, shiny new one.

It has been the biggest item on Jerry Jones’ agenda for quite a while, and yet the urgency is nowhere to be found.

Despite a lack of communication regarding Parsons’ extension, he promised on X (formerly Twitter) that he’ll be back on the field for mandatory minicamp next week.

“I will be there!,” Parsons shared. “I haven’t missed a mini camp in 4 years! Even though the contract is not done, I have teammates and a playbook ! I’m preparing as if I will be on the field the first week of camp! But it’s in the owner’s hands. I’m ready to win a Super Bowl!”

Since OTAs kicked off on May 19, Parsons has been absent. Questions have continued to be asked to head coach Brian Schottenheimer about his status. Schottenheimer has continued to maintain the narrative in his answers that Parsons and him have remained on good terms and he expects him to be at The Star for minicamp.

For any Cowboys fans who are concerned Parsons would repeat CeeDee Lamb’s holdout, those worries have been squashed.

The All-Pro edge rusher has been known to be pretty active on social media when responding to certain things, but his message was a bit surprising considering how players have held out when looking for a new contract in Dallas.

Last offseason the Cowboys had to give new contracts to both Lamb and Dak Prescott. Lamb held out all of voluntary workouts, mandatory minicamp and training camp. Two weeks before the opener, he got a big new contract. While Prescott did not hold out, his new contract did not get done until the morning of opening day.

Since that mess unfolded last year, you can’t help but wonder if Parsons will get the same treatment. The Cowboys have been notorious for waiting until the last minute to do new contracts for their most important players. Fortunately, Parsons took to social media to assure the fans he will be on the field this offseason getting ready for 2025.

While negotiations are at a standstill and very little has been disclosed by Jerry or Stephen Jones, the fact Parsons will be at the team’s mandatory minicamp is a great sign. He knows he is one of the most influential leaders in that locker room and he wants to set the tone early for a team looking to bounce back after a rough season.

With Parsons being at minicamp and in the facility, it would also give the front office more opportunities to talk with him about negotiating his deal.

While Prescott and Lamb are A-list pieces, Parsons is probably the best player on the team and a top five defensive player in the league. Some believe his on his way to becoming the best pass rusher of his era.

It remains ridiculous that his contract isn’t done.
