BREAKING NEWS : Green Bay Packers sign former Miami WR Sam Brown Jr.

Duke v Miami

The Green Bay Packers announced the signing of wide receiver Sam Brown Jr., adding depth and experience to their receiving unit. Brown, an undrafted rookie free agent, brings a ton of experience from his time at West Virginia University, the University of Houston, and the University of Miami.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 200 pounds, Brown participated in the Miami Dolphins’ rookie camp earlier this month. Over his collegiate career, he appeared in 43 games with 28 starts, amassing 149 receptions for 1,903 yards and nine touchdowns. The hometown team giving Brown an opportunity to show off his abilities during rookie camp may have kept his NFL career alive.

After starting at West Virginia, he transferred to Houston, where he became a focal point in the Cougars passing attack. He spent two years at Houston as a teammate of Packers 1st round pick WR Matthew Golden, so there is a bit of a connection. During his first season with the Cougars, he tallied 41 receptions for 471 yards and four touchdowns. His standout season came in 2023 at Houston, where he earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors after recording 62 receptions for 815 yards.

Following the 2023 season, Brown transferred to Miami, where he continued to demonstrate his ability. In 2024 he played in 12 games, starting nine, and amassed 36 receptions for 509 yards and two touchdowns. His best performance was against Louisville, catching three passes for 125 yards and a touchdown. That showcase earned him ACC Receiver of the Week honors.

Brown recorded an official 40-yard dash time of 4.44 seconds and his vertical jump measured an impressive 41.5 inches, ranking among the top performances for wide receivers in his class. Brown will wear No. 17 for the Packers, a number previously donned by notable receivers in the franchise’s history such as Davanta Adams.
