Ahead of the 2025 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers are hopeful of being a top-tier Super Bowl contender in the NFC. They have been close over the last two years, but haven’t been able to make the winning games against elite teams in the playoffs.
During the offseason, the Packers made a couple of moves. They signed offensive lineman Aaron Banks and cornerback Nate Hobbs to lucrative free agency deals, and made some smaller moves as well along with the new 2025 NFL Draft class.
However, there is one major question that needs to be answered in the very near future. Will Jaire Alexander be back with the team for one more year or not?
Throughout the entire offseason, Alexander has been constantly in the rumor mill. At one point, it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that he would be either traded or release. That is not the case anymore.
Alexander, when healthy, is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. Moving on from him for nothing would be a very difficult move to make. Instead, Green Bay might bring him back and give him one more chance to prove he can stay healthy and get back to being a superstar defensive back.
With that being said, Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer has made a major prediction for the Packers and Alexander. He believes the 28-year-old cornerback will be on the roster in 2025.
“I’d say yes—at this point, teams have done the bulk of their roster building, and have spent to their cash and cap budgets, and are moving forward with their groups,” Breer wrote. “Maybe an injury somewhere creates some urgency, but as it stands, I think Alexander is stuck, and may have to play ball with the Packers.”
Over the last two years, Alexander has only been able to play in seven games in each season. Last year, he showed how productive he’s still capable of being.
In the seven games he played in 2024, Alexander racked up 16 total tackles, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and seven defended passes. He’s still an elite playmaker in the secondary.
Bringing him back makes the most sense for Green Bay at this point. If things don’t work out again in 2025, the Packers could then move on from him next offseason.
