Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has long been known as one of the best at his position in all of sports, routinely finding players who could make an impact when most left them for dead.

While Veach has had his fair share of failures, ranging from Sky Moore to Clyde Edwards-Helaire, he’s not alone in his missteps. He’s found numerous undrafted free agents who have made an impact, such as halfback Carson Steele, yet one new transaction suggests he may have made a mistake.

In a surprising move, a former Chief has been let go by the Houston Texans to create room for someone more exciting.

Texans Release Former Chiefs G Jerome Carvin Ahead of OTAs

As reported by the Texans on social media, the team officially released guard Jerome Carvin just ahead of OTAs, set to begin this week.

Carvin spent a minuscule amount of time with Kansas City, yet he was still part of an organization desperate to solve its offensive line issues. After trading Joe Thuney, all cards were on the table. Mike Caliendo is an excellent backup, yet he’s no starter, as was proved in the Super Bowl.

Originally an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee, Carvin has spent time with the Chiefs, Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Houston Texans. He joined Kansas City’s practice squad initially but couldn’t catch on, yet he remains an intriguing talent despite never appearing in an NFL game.

2024 Fantasy Football Rookie Roundup: The Kansas City Chiefs – Football Absurdity

If the Chiefs couldn’t find use for him after all of these offensive line struggles, he faces an uphill battle to stick in the NFL. In all likelihood, Carvin will be a practice squad player trying to fight for his livelihood.

We’ll see what happens, but at this point, it looks like a player who has been cut four times since 2024 might not have a future in the league.
