The Patriots have had a far more impressive offseason than anyone anticipated, despite having the most cap space to use and a roster widely considered the worst in the league. It left much room for improvement by new head coach Mike Vrabel and VP of player personnel Eliot Wolf, creating a daunting task that didn’t seem doable in one offseason.

Fortunately, they appear to have accomplished that already, with some prominent free agent signings and a highly regarded draft class to match. It has put them in a great position to succeed this upcoming season, especially by surrounding quarterback Drake Maye with the talent needed to allow him to thrive. But there might be room for more players to join the offense to really put the group over the top.

In free agency, the Patriots signed Mack Hollins, who most recently played for the Bills, and eventually Stefon Diggs, who spent a year with the Texans after being traded by Buffalo. They then added Kyle Williams in the draft, hoping to round out the receiving corps, and it looks like all boxes have been checked so far.

But some suggest they go after another former Bills player looking for a team to play for in 2025. He showed a lot of promise during his career in the AFC East, and after a bumpy stop with the Jaguars, he could make for an excellent addition to Foxboro.

The Patriots could take a chance by signing former Bills receiver Gabe Davis for 2025

With a good amount of cap space remaining to be used this offseason, Efstathios Savvidis of Chowder & Champions believes the Patriots should take a chance on signing Gabe Davis before the season begins.

The Patriots became familiar with the kind of player Davis can be during his four years in Buffalo. Although he never flashed too much against them, he demonstrated just how good he could be for a quarterback by racking up 163 receptions for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns in the regular season.

He wasn’t able to replicate that in Jacksonville, however, which might be reason enough to deter Vrabel and Co. from considering him. But we’ve seen the kind of production he can bring when integrated into the offense, which could ultimately benefit Drake Maye.

That’s the main point that Savvidis makes regarding his belief that the Patriots should consider Davis, who could be signed to a much cheaper deal than what he received from the Jaguars. Although it’s currently crowded, he could round out their receiving room and become a red zone threat that the Patriots were seriously lacking, while also adding the veteran assurance that might make the team weary about players like Javon Baker and Ja’Lynn Polk.

It could be one of his most appealing traits, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that he was a longtime Bills player whom quarterback Josh Allen loved. He would make the third former player now on the Patriots roster, who would have the chance to go up against his ex-team twice a year.

If the price is right, there’s no reason for the Patriots not to consider it. If the goal is to put Maye in the best position possible to succeed, signing another capable receiver is never a bad idea.
