Cleveland Browns QB Trade Rumors Come Down To 1 Major Thing - Athlon Sports

The Cleveland Browns have the opportunity to have a tremendous quarterback situation on their hands.

Amid news that Deshaun Watson is out of his boot and throwing at the team facility, there is a logjam of quarterbacks in the room. Veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett were joined by draft picks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.

Cleveland has been publicly vocal about having no plans to trade any of the four at this point. But, as Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com writes, that’s subject to change.

“The Browns have no plans to trade any of their quarterbacks at this point. They’re intent on conducting this four-way quarterback competition and having the QBs bring out the best in each other,” Cabot wrote. “By roster cutdown day on Aug. 27, they will be prepared to part with at least one of the quarterbacks. Which one will be determined by the competition, and how their depth chart order shakes out.”

Most teams don’t go into the regular season with four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, and the Browns aren’t likely to do it, either. After the pecking order is determined, with a starter, backup and emergency quarterback decided, the fourth guy in line could be subject to trade rather than just being released.

But, it’s a hard sell when other teams know that player will most likely be released and they can pick him up for nothing.

It’s a fine line the Browns might have to figure out come August as the NFL asks itself the question: Does Cleveland employ a lot of good QBs?

Or just a lot of QBs.
