BREAKING : Green Bay Packers Playmaker Facing Huge Pressure Ahead of Crucial 2025 Season

Dontayvion Wicks, Green Bay Packers

Ahead of the upcoming 2025 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers will have some difficult decisions to make. One of those decisions will have to do with what to do at the wide receiver position.

Following the 2025 NFL draft, the Packers now have a very full wide receiver room. Both Matthew Golden and Savion Williams were added to the roster in the first and third rounds respectively. They both have a lot of talent and potential for the future.

Green Bay also happened to have a talented and young wide receiver corps before the draft. Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks were all key players during the 2024 season.

Now, there is a chance that the Packers may have to move on from one of them to make room for their two new weapons. One player in particular has a lot of work ahead of him to keep phis roster spot.

Green Bay Packers 2025 Season Preview: A Defining Year in the Post-Rodgers Era

Chris Schad of Dairyland Express believes that Wicks is facing a lot of pressure to keep his spot. He led the team in targets last season, but his numbers do not reflect that.

Throughout the 2025 season, Wicks played in 17 games, catching just 39 passes for 415 yards and five touchdowns. He had a major problem with drops.

Due to the lack of production despite being the most targeted wide receiver on the roster, Schad has given a tough outlook for Wicks.

“A lot of the drama in the Packers receiving room has surrounded Reed, Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson, who is recovering from a multiligament knee injury,” Schad wrote. “But it may be Wicks who is not only trying to fend off the incoming rookie duo, but free agent pickup Mecole Hardman Jr., who got a positive review from Packers passing game coordinator Jason Vrable.”

Wicks is just 23 years old and has shown flashes of huge potential in Green Bay. However, he has been unable to make those flashes become consistency. That could lead to the team opting to move on.

Only time will tell, but Wicks is a key player to keep an eye on as training camp and the preseason get underway as a potential cut or trade candidate.
