BREAKING NEWS : Lions’ D.J. Reed should be fan favorite after picking most anticipated matchups

Houston Texans v New York Jets

Every year, the Detroit Lions surely circle big games once they get their schedule released. Every team does this, and it’s a great way to motivate yourself and your teammates to prepare properly for divisional matchups, rivalries and revenge games during a very slow offseason.

The Lions seem done with making big swing acquisitions and signings, so their current 2025 roster is likely what fans are getting in Week 1 on the road against the Green Bay Packers. While it’d be nice to see them at least still try to add to their pass rush, it’s not a requirement for their defense which is getting Aidan Hutchinson back shortly.

That said, the team did make a major addition to their secondary by signing free agent cornerback D.J. Reed this offseason. The former New York Jets defender has put some excellent seasons under his belt, and he comes to add even more punch to a secondary that features Terrion Arnold, Brian Branch, and Kerby Joseph.

Reed didn’t take long to find himself a perfect candidate for fan favorite this season, endearing himself to the fanbase in one of the Lions’ offseason social media videos asking players what matchup they were most excited to take part in. Reed’s answer was perfect: he simply chose every single opponent presented to him.

Detroit posted a video to Twitter/X a few days after the teams’ schedule was officially released, asking players what game they were most excited for in 2025. They were presented a table a team logos attached to popsicle sticks to hold up to the camera as their answer.

Reed somehow found a way to spend the entire video just picking up every single logo and stick, saying he’s most anticipating the entire regular season. That’s a great way to tell hard-nosed, and long struggling, Detroit fans that you’re not coming here to mess around.

Reed is looking to build upon a 2024 season where he had 11 passes defended and 64 total tackles for a struggling Jets squad. The veteran defender is known for his big tackles and nose for the ball, and while that doesn’t always result in a ton of interceptions, he’s the guy you want in on a 3rd and long situation getting a major stop.
