BREAKING: Packers Make Trade Decision On Former Second Round Pick?

packers trade jayden reed

In a clarifying contract status update, the Green Bay Packers could trade wide receiver Jayden Reed either way this upcoming 2025 campaign. According to several sources, the Packers met with Reed’s agent to ensure his status as a top receiver for Jordan Love’s passing offense. It’s interesting to see they did this, considering several wide receivers like Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson have been in many trade rumors, but they may send Reed to a new roster to fully embrace the rebuild. After drafting Matthew Golden and Savion Williams in the early rounds, the Packers will at least trade one playmaker or release one to make room for the 53-man roster.

Many should expect Green Bay to be active as sellers during the NFL Training Camp, but if they want a high draft pick, they should trade Reed. It’s hard to imagine they would, since he’s currently in his second year of his four-year deal, but it’s not entirely impossible. Originally selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Michigan State product had one of his best seasons last year, recording 857 receiving yards on 55 catches. While Golden is league-ready for starting duties, and Savion Williams might become their No. 3 receiver, this unfortunately, might be enough to make Reed expendable.

Potential Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers haven’t found a true No. 21 receiver to salvage the wideout department, despite drafting Tre Harris this year. 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey is still the best playmaker on this passing offense, but he still has a lot of experience to get through before he can be a proven option for quarterback Justin Herbert. Quentin Johnston probably won’t start this upcoming season since he’s been slowly depleting. However, Reed could change the landscape of the offense and be their new WR1 to finally give Herbert the relief he needs to succeed.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, it’s been a disastrous 2025 offseason for the New Orleans Saints, and it doesn’t look like it will get any better. Following Derek Carr’s retirement and two unproven quarterbacks in Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler, they could use more than just a superstar wide receiver. Jayden Reed could fill the hole if Chris Olave decides to leave, which would be an ideal help for Rashid Shaheed and veteran Brandin Cooks.

Kansas City Chiefs

Don’t expect the Packers to trade any weapons to a Super Bowl roster, but at the right offer, anything is possible. Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice are the more dynamic playmakers than Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster. There’s no one else to fill the hole that DeAndre Hopkins left for Baltimore, but if they attempt to get Reed, he would be their new long-term option to finally fix the wideout issue the Chiefs have had.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens are always one step closer to the Super Bowl. They’re hoping that DeAndre Hopkins can finally bring some new life to this new unit and pick up the slack when Rashod Bateman consistently can’t. It’s possible the Ravens could trade Bateman since the Cowboys were interested in him. If that happens, the Ravens should get another true potential playmaker like Reed to fill that spot behind Zay Flowers.
