🔴 Kansas City Chiefs Set to Make a Bold Move: Former First-Round Wide Receiver to Join the Roster? 🏈

Kansas City Chiefs To Sign Former First Round Wide Receiver: Reaction

We’re officially deep in May, which means that most of the top free agents have already been signed. However, there are a few big names still out there, waiting to decide on their next team.

One of those players is former first-round wide receiver Amari Cooper.

Admittedly, 2024 wasn’t great for Cooper, as he caught 44 passes for 547 yards in 14 games. In 2023, though, Cooper was fantastic, with 72 receptions for 1,250 yards.

The fact that Cooper is 30 years old and showed signs of decline may scare off some teams, but it’s also worth noting Cooper’s performance may have been impacted by a midseason trade from the Cleveland Browns to the Buffalo Bills.

With that in mind, Marissa Myers of TWSN predicts that the Kansas City Chiefs will sign Cooper .

Myers writes, “The wide receiver room is solid, but with each dealing either injuries or off-field legal issues presents a challenge the Chiefs must figure out to make sure they have enough wide receiver depth… At 6’1, 210 pounds, Cooper would provide the big-bodied, contested catch receiver that the Kansas City Chiefs need. Cooper would become a top target for Mahomes early on”

While Cooper is unlikely to return back to those 2023 numbers, he could absolutely be useful in a depth role. As Myers outlines, this is exactly what the Chiefs offense needs to make a Super Bowl run next season.

Kansas City Chiefs to Sign Amari Cooper: Prediction Reaction

Although Cooper isn’t going to sign as the WR1 for any team, he’s absolutely a player that most NFL teams would love to have. Below, we’ll break down if Cooper should sign with the Chiefs and if this is a realistic possibility.

Patrick Mahomes Shares Instant Reaction to Chiefs' 1st-Round Pick

At 30 years old, it’s very likely that one of the top motivations for Cooper is winning a Super Bowl. Especially when you consider that Cooper came up short with the Buffalo Bills and before that, he was on the Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys.

The Chiefs didn’t win it all last year, but their 2025 outlook is still extremely bright. According to FanDuel , the Chiefs have the 4th-best odds in the NFL at +800 to bring home the Lombardi Trophy next season.

Combine that with the fact that one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes, will be throwing you the ball, Kansas City is a hard destination to top.

Prior to the George Pickens trade, it would have made sense for Cooper to return to the Cowboys. The Cowboys are a playoff team that had a wide-open role for Cooper to step into.

With that door now closed, it seems like the Chiefs should be the most likely scenario.

Another possibility is the Pittsburgh Steelers, which Myers also made the case for in a prior article.

Myers explains that “even though Cooper might not be able to produce like he once used to, Cooper can still be a viable secondary receiver to take pressure off Metcalf, and add more depth to the receiver room… Cooper sitting out for free agency as long as he has will have brought his value down so Pittsburgh wouldn’t have to give up much financially to sign him.”

The opportunity is there with the Steelers, but the contending aspect is not. Even with Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers are nowhere close to the Chiefs and they’re still pretty far off from the Cowboys.

When taking all factors into account, the most likely outcome for Cooper is that he’s going to try and win a championship with the Chiefs next season.
