There is a long way to go, but the NFL schedule release has not been kind to the Dallas Cowboys so far. Not only will they open the 2025 season on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles, but they will host Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving before traveling to Washington to play the Commanders on Christmas Day.

The showdown vs. Kansas City in particular has the potential to be a doozy both on the field and in terms of ratings. The Chiefs used to go by the Dallas Texans back in the AFL days before they relocated to KC. Mahomes, meanwhile, was born in Tyler, TX and played college ball at Texas Tech.

It is a box-office matchup for myriad reasons, and it just added another layer of excitement after DeMarvion Overshown shared his reaction to the news on Instagram. Per Overshown, he will be active for the Thanksgiving Day affair.

Cowboys’ DeMarvion Overshown plans to be active for Thanksgiving Day game vs. the Chiefs

“Oh yeah I’m active in this,” Overshown shared to his Instagram story.

The third-year pro, who will become the first player in franchise history to wear the No. 0, left little doubt that he will be cleared in time. He has attacked his rehab with a bulldog mentality, which is par for the course, so it would not surprise if he is active by Thanksgiving.

It is important not to jump to conclusions, though, as Overshown suffered one of the most catastrophic knee injuries an athlete can endure. The budding linebacker tore the ACL, MCL and PCL in his right knee after his leg got pinned under a Bengals offensive lineman in Week 14.

Those are three of the four main knee ligaments. Only Overshown’s LCL, which gives stability to the outer knee, escaped the wreckage without any damage.

Cowboys fans initially feared that Overshown could miss all of the 2025 season. How could they not? However, the early reports on his rehab have been overwhelmingly positive. Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reported in April that Overshown is “progressing well” and that the team is hopeful he can return near the halfway point of the season.

The Cowboys and Chiefs will lock horns in Week 13 – Nov. 27 to be exact – which is well past the halfway point. That could put Overshown on track to return before then, but Dallas is likely to slow-play his return to the field, making Thanksgiving a much more realistic timeline.
