2024 NFL Week 10 winners and losers: Steelers’ Mike Tomlin earns another big win; Cowboys’ season lost | CBS Sports

Winner: Andy Reid’s coaching staff

The Chiefs coach isn’t getting typically elite passing production from Patrick Mahomes. Half his top skill weapons arrived off the street during the season. And yet his defensive and special teams staffers are overseeing near-flawless results in crunch time, as evidenced by a walk-off block of a 35-yard Wil Lutz field goal, which would’ve enabled the Denver Broncos to hand the Chiefs their first loss of the year.

NFL Week 10 takeaways: Which teams will challenge for NFC throne | USA Today

1. Despite remaining the league’s lone undefeated outfit, the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs’ average margin of victory this season is just 6.4 points.

2. After surviving the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon by blocking a game-winning field-goal attempt on the final play to preserve a 16-14 victory, K.C. improved to 9-0 for the third time in franchise history. Only two of the Chiefs’ wins are by more than seven points. Per OptaSTATS, the Chiefs are the first team in NFL history to win nine consecutive games (including playoffs) in which they trailed after halftime.

3. But whether or not Kansas City can go an unprecedented 17-0 in the regular season – or even an unprecedented 20-0 with the first-ever Super Bowl threepeat – is probably a premature question, even if they are currently on cruise control to the AFC’s No. 1 playoff seed.

NFL results and highlights: Kansas City Chiefs stay undefeated and move to 9-0 with last-gasp victory over Denver Broncos after blocked field goal | Sky Sports

Patrick Mahomes finished with 266 yards passing and a touchdown for Kansas City, which became only the fifth team to follow up a Super Bowl triumph by winning its first nine games. That also matches the best start to a season in franchise history.

The Chiefs’ 15-game winning streak dating to last season is the longest in the NFL since the Green Bay Packers won 19 in a row from 2010-11.

NFL Week 10 grades: Chiefs only get a ‘C+’ after miraculous win; Cowboys embarrassing loss leads to an ‘F’ | CBS Sports

C+ Chiefs

When you’re trying to go undefeated in the NFL, sometimes you need a little luck and the Chiefs got that on Sunday. Kansas City’s special teams won this game: Not only did Harrison Butker kick three field goals, but Leo Chenal came up with the play of the year when he blocked a Broncos field goal on the final play of the game. There are three phases to the game in the NFL and one reason the Chiefs are so good is because they can be carried by any one of those phases on any given day.

CeeDee Lamb wants Cowboys to block sunlight with curtains after drop | ESPN

Trailing 7-3 and facing second-and-goal from the Philadelphia Eagles’ 3, Cooper Rush had an open CeeDee Lamb in the end zone for a go-ahead score. One problem: Lamb could not see the pass because the sun was in his eyes.

The Cowboys settled for a field goal and would not score a point the rest of the game in a 34-6 loss to the Eagles.

After answering questions for a little more than five minutes, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones brought up the issue of the sun on his own.

“We do know where the damn sun’s going to be at our own stadium,” Jones said.

As he walked down the hall toward the elevators, more questions were asked.

Why not put up curtains?

“Well, let’s just tear the damn stadium down and build another one? You kidding me?” Jones said.

Sunday Night Football: Jared Goff throws five picks, but Lions win 26-23 on last-play FG | NBC Sports

The Lions should have lost. Despite five interceptions by Jared Goff, they didn’t.

Detroit got a 52-yard game-winner from Jake Bates on the final play, delivering an improbable 26-23 victory. The Lions moved to 8-1, while the Texans fell to 6-4.

In one of the more entertaining games of the season, the teams combined for seven interceptions. Four came in the third quarter with Goff and Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud each throwing two.

Goff threw only four interceptions in the first eight games. Kamari Lassiter had two picks and Jimmie Ward, Henry To’oTo’o and Azeez Al-Shaair one each as Goff set a new career high for interceptions in a game. He completed 15 of 30 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns.

Bears’ Matt Eberflus said he heard fans calling for his firing, will examine his staff after loss to Patriots | CBS Sports

Bears coach Matt Eberflus told reporters that he heard the chants for his job from the home fans on Sunday, but that it comes with the territory of being a head coach in the NFL, per the Chicago Sun-Times. Eberflus also said he wouldn’t rule out play-calling changes, and that he will examine his staff up and down.

Eberflus will surely examine the offensive side of the ball. Shane Waldron’s unit recorded a measly 142 yards of total offense vs. the Patriots, and went an eye-popping 1-for-14 on third downs. The Bears have not scored a touchdown on 23 straight offensive drives since Week 8, and have allowed 15 sacks over the last two games — including nine on Sunday.

Kyler Murray plays like best player on ‘planet’ in Cards’ win | ESPN

Maybe it was because Murray had two rushing touchdowns — waltzing into the end zone after a masterful play-action on one and slithering between two New York Jets defenders on the other.

Maybe it was because he completed 17 straight passes to set a Cardinals record. Maybe it was because Murray became the first player in NFL history to complete 85% of his passes with 250 passing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Or maybe it was because of all of it that coach Jonathan Gannon heaped a world’s worth of praise on Murray after he led the Cardinals to a dismantling of the Jets 31-6 on Sunday at State Farm Stadium for their fourth win in a row and their fifth in the past six games.

Chiefs-Broncos: 4 winners and 3 losers from the Week 10 win

Winners

Tight end Travis Kelce: The man who now has more touchdown receptions than any other player in franchise history, Kelce was once again the safety valve Mahomes needed. Another seven catches for 58 yards — and his 76th career touchdown — were good enough to get the job done against a tough defense.

The entire Chiefs special teams unit: The primary reason this team is now 9-0 is that Dave Toub’s crew blew up the Bronco’s potential game-winning field goal. Pennel and Chenal — along with Jack Cochrane, Mike Danna and George Karlaftis — destroyed Denver’s blocking unit. It looks like Chenal will get credit for the block, but it could have been any of those guys. Was this a special play Toub called in the right moment, or it was a “Varsity Blues” moment when the big guy cleared the way for the athletic guy to make a play? We don’t know. But however it happened, it was a heart-stopping ending to a game Kansas City probably should have lost. It wasn’t just this play, either. At the end of the first half, Mecole Hardman nearly returned a missed field goal for a touchdown.
