BREAKING: Cowboys Coach Makes His Stance on Trey Lance Extremely Clear

Cowboys Coach Makes His Stance on Trey Lance Extremely Clear - Athlon Sports

Things continue to get worse for the Dallas Cowboys, who failed to end their slump on Sunday. With Cooper Rush starting in place of the injured Dak Prescott, the Cowboys got dominated from start to finish by the Philadelphia Eagles, who came away with a 34-6 victory at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Also making an appearance under center in the Eagles game was Trey Lance, who first set foot on the field late in the third quarter. Lance picked up four rushing yards during a play before handing off the ball to Rico Dowdle. Rush then went back to the field for the remainder of the drive which ended up with him losing a fumble to the Eagles.

Lance, the former 2021 NFL draft third-pick overall, would continue to play in the fourth quarter where he threw an interception.

Despite making an appearance for the Cowboys, Lance’s chances of ascending to a starting role this season look bleak based on what Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy said after the Philly game.

“We’re not there yet,” McCarthy said about the possibility of Lance getting a chance to start at the QB slot, per Cowboys reporter Clarence Hill Jr.

“I mean, we had a package for him. We wanted to get him into the flow of the game was the thought process coming in here. Then to get him in when we did, then I took him out on the third down. I just believe in reps,” continued McCarthy.

Overall, Lance, who was acquired by the Cowboys via a trade with the San Francisco 49ers in August 2023, had 21 passing yards on 4-of-6 completions and rushed for 17 yards on three carries.

The Cowboys will have a lot to talk about in the days, as they fell to 3-6. Their next assignment will be against the Houston Texans on Nov. 18.
