The Detroit Lions saw a bunch of coaches leave town this offseason, including Aaron Glenn. He became the head coach of the New York Jets, where he played eight seasons for them.

He is tasked with rebuilding the organization, and his recent statements made it appear that he would be thrilled to trade for WR Jameson Williams. During rookie minicamp, he was asked how Detroit helped him transition into becoming a head coach, and Dan Campbell played a huge role in that.

He also added, “Every morning at 7:30, Jamo was in my office. And we would sit there and talk.”

Aaron Glenn Would Meet With Jameson Williams Every Morning

There has been smoke around a Williams trade this offseason, but that hasn’t gone anywhere. The Jets have Garrett Wilson, who is eligible for a contract extension himself. While the Jets are expected to figure that out, the idea of trading for Williams is intriguing.

The Jets badly need another playmaker at WR, and Williams would immediately fill in that void. The odds aren’t high that Detroit moves on from the Alabama product, but you can never say never in the NFL.

After dealing with injuries over his first two seasons, Williams popped off in 2024. He posted career-highs in receptions (58), receiving yards (1,001), receiving touchdowns (7), and yards per reception (17.3).

The Lions picked up his fifth-year option on Williams, locking him in through 2026. The Lions are Super Bowl contenders and need all the weapons they can have, especially since Ben Johnson left to become the Chicago Bears’ head coach.

There’s a lot to digest on Williams’ front, but it’s evident he and Glenn built an outstanding relationship. Even though Glenn was the defensive coordinator, he made sure to speak with all the players on the team, and that helped prepare him to be the lead man in New York.

The bond with Williams is something that Glenn cherished and would love to have him in the Big Apple.
