The Green Bay Packers’ receiver room is undergoing a lot of changes this offseason. With incoming draft picks Matthew Golden and Savion Williams hoping to secure plenty of playing time in their rookie campaigns, the young Packers receivers already on the roster are feeling the pressure on the depth chart. In response, one key receiver was reassured by general manager Brian Gutekunst that his top spot would not be in jeopardy.

Brian Gutekunst Promises Key Wide Receiver He Will Remain The Team’s Top Target

The Green Bay Packers have the good problem of having almost too many talented pass-catchers on the roster. With only so much playing time to go around, some of the teams’ more senior receivers are feeling the crowdedness, with at least one wanting to get some clarity on their role.

Jayden Reed, who led the team with 857 yards receiving last year, reportedly has been reassured that his role at the team’s top receiver is safe. His agent met with Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst last week, expressing concern about Reed’s role on next year’s team. However, apparently Reed heard some good news.

Reed is one of many receivers who could stake a theoretical claim to the team’s top dog. Christian Watson led the team in yards per catch last year and has just as many career touchdowns as Reed. At one point, many fans would have agreed that Watson was the main man.

Dontayvion Wicks is hoping to enter the conversation as well. Coming off of a career-high year in targets and touchdowns, the third-year man might have some big dreams of what this season could be for him. Reed has plenty of competition behind him for targets.

Is the Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Room Too Crowded?

Some feel that the Packers have too many receivers, making some expendable via trade, Reed’s teammate Romeo Doubs has been recently involved in trade rumors, with the Pittsburgh Steelers apparently courting the young wideout after they traded their own young talent George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys.

However, it would appear that head coach Matt LaFleur does not agree. At least, that’s what trusted NFL insider Peter Schrager is hearing.

One way or another, Green Bay is in for some unhappy receivers this season. With four reliable targets now being joined by two talented rookies, it may be a make-or-break season for many of them.
