BREAKING NEWS: FSU dismisses wide receiver coach Ron Dugans

FSU has moved on from WR coach Ron Dugans

Every Ron Dugans Touchdown | Ron Dugans Highlights

Florida State wide receivers coach Ron Dugans, a former Seminoles standout at the position he coached, is no longer with the program. He was officially dismissed on Sunday, as head coach Mike Norvell announced he is moving on from Dugans, who was on the staff under the previous regime when Norvell arrived at FSU in 2020. Dugans has been at FSU since 2019.

“I appreciate the work these three men have provided over the last five years with me at Florida State,” Norvell said in the release announcing the dismissal of Dugans, as well as offensive coordinator Alex Atkins and defensive coordinator Adam Fuller. “They are all great men with families who also have poured into our program. We had many great moments together here, and I have never doubted their passion for our players and for Florida State. Unfortunately, we have not upheld the Florida State standard with our results on the field this season. I did not make any of these decisions lightly, but I felt changes needed to be made to elevate our program back to where we all desire it to be.”

Dugans had another season remaining on his contract. Our understanding of Dugans’ contract is that he will be owed roughly $625,000 that can be paid out in installments equal to bi-weekly or monthly payments over the course of the remainder of his contract (through February of 2026).

FSU’s receiver play has been sporadic during the course of Dugans’ tenure. Bright moments include the development of Ontaria Wilson and transfer Johnny Wilson (6th round NFL Draft pick).

But inconsistent production (FSU’s receivers rank 91st nationally since 2019 with a Drop Rate of 6 percent) and results on the recruiting trail made him relatively easy to justify moving on from.

Dugans, 47, played at FSU from 1995-99 and won a national title with the Seminoles. The Tallahassee native had 105 receptions for 1,520 yards and seven touchdowns in his college career, and went on to be a third-round selection by the Cincinnati Bengals.

It is unclear at this time who will assume Dugans’ role with the wide receivers for the remaining two games of the 2024 season.
