Everybody PANIC.

Can I interest you in the 280th straight day of hand-wringing about the Lions’ draft? After a long offseason capped off by a long draft weekend, the natural inclination would be to, you know, unplug and not worry about a football team for like 12 seconds. But that’s simply not how the NFL works, and every minute you waste sleeping is a minute that could be used to create more content. Think about that next time you “want” to get a “healthy” amount of “sleep.”

Think about it this way: if you chose to remove yourself from the perpetual cycle of panic that is Lions’ fandom, you’d probably end up missing this new piece from ESPN about how every team messed up one very specific position in the draft. And if you missed this new piece from ESPN about how every team messed up one very specific position in the draft, you wouldn’t have the opportunity to raise your blood pressure over something you can’t control.

ESPN isn’t sold on the Lions’ edge rushing depth, calls out Brad Holmes’ draft strategy

Position of need: Edge rusher depth

After all the injuries they suffered last season, it was a surprise that the Lions didn’t draft an edge rusher until Ahmed Hassanein in the sixth round. Can the Lions keep an edge rusher rotation healthy behind Aidan Hutchinson — assuming Hutchinson himself can stay healthy? Marcus Davenport has played only six games the past two seasons. Al-Quadin Muhammad is 30 years old, though he had three sacks in nine games in 2024. Josh Paschal has only five sacks in three seasons. The rest of the depth chart is made up of street free agents.

The good news is that ESPN also thinks the Packers have an edge rushing problem, and they don’t even have, you know, an actually good edge rusher. If the Lions are going to go into this season with major concerns on the edge, I’d rather that be because “they just don’t have someone good behind their All-Pro star” instead of “who’s going to win the race to 4.5 sacks this season?” But if that’s too optimistic for your tastes, totally understand. Fortunately, ESPN is here for the truly neurotic among us. That’s what’s so wonderful and fulfilling about content: there’s a little something for everyone.
