Sneaky Move? Chiefs Add Camp Standout While Everyone Slept on Him 💤

This past weekend, the Kansas City Chiefs hosted their 2025 rookie minicamp. Rookie minicamp is always an exciting time for fans, as it’s the first time they get to see clips of the new draft picks in action. That said, this minicamp also serves as a chance for undrafted players to prove why they deserve spots on a team’s preseason roster.

Over the weekend, that seems to be exactly what happened as one undrafted standout earned a spot on the Chiefs roster. According to Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest, Kansas City signed Carson-Newman safety Major Williams overnight on Monday.

Chiefs Sign Undrafted Free Agent Safety Major Williams

Williams played three years of football at Division II Carson-Newman. During his time there, he recorded 155 tackles, 4.5 sacks, four interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. Although Williams didn’t face elite competition in college, his traits and production were enough to earn him a shot in the Chiefs’ rookie minicamp.

Clearly, he took full advantage of the opportunity and earned a preseason roster spot. Still, Williams has a long way to go if he wants to earn a chance to make the practice squad. Currently, the Chiefs top four safeties are Jaden Hicks, Bryan Cook, Mike Edwards and Deon Bush.

Then, Kansas City also has rookies Glendon Miller and Will Brooks. Both Miller (Maryland) and Brooks (Tennessee) attended Division I Schools, meaning they are used to a higher level of competition. While the NFL is the toughest level of competition, it’s easier for Division I athletes to make the jump than it is in Division II.

Therefore, Miller or Brooks are more likely to land on the practice squad than Williams. Nevertheless, if Williams can put together a strong training camp and the preseason, he could beat both Miller and Brooks out for a practice squad spot.
