BREAKING NEWS : Bryce Huff Signing With the Detroit Lions

Bryce Huff Signing With The Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions had a good 2025 NFL Draft, getting key players like Tyliek Williams, Tate Ratledge, and Ahmed Hassanein, but they could’ve done better as well. The Detroit Lions had a major need at the edge position that they needed to address during the NFL Draft, but they didn’t achieve that. Hassanein is a good upside player, but can’t be relied on the be the impact starter opposite of Aidan Hutchinson like the Lions need for the season.

For a Lions team that has aspirations of making the Super Bowl this season, they have to have more proven players in their edge rotation that they can rely on. As the season approaches, getting a trade done for an edge rusher could become ideal. The edge rusher they should consider trading for is Bryce Huff.

Detroit Lions Trade for Bryce Huff

The Philadelphia Eagles ended up adding Bryce Huff in free agency last season after his breakout year on the New York Jets in 2023 when he had 67 pressures, and 10 sacks. Huff being just 26 years old made this deal even more attractive for the Eagles as he should’ve been able to build off that season, and turn into a long-term impact player for the Eagles’ defense. That didn’t happen, and instead, Huff never found his stride in Vic Fangio’s scheme and ended up with just 23 pressures, and two sacks.

A change in teams could do well for Bryce Huff, as he was able to showcase the potential he does have, but just needs the right defensive scheme to get that talent out of him once again and unlock it fully going forward. With the culture of the Detroit Lions, and having a defensive-minded head coach like Dan Campbell, Huff would thrive in that environment.

Bryce Huff’s strengths of converting his speed-to-power, and quick get-off would be tapped into further, and would fit the Lions defense, leading to him being able to bring that disruptive factor to the rotation. The flashes that Bryce Huff has also shown against the run is an encouraging sign that he can still develop further, and even handle a larger workload than what he has been given so far in his career.

Detroit Lions Land Eagles' Bryce Huff in Trade Pitch - Athlon Sports

For the Eagles, they will more than likely look to make this a post-June 1 trade as if he is traded before it will increase his guaranteed cap hit for 2025 to $5.4 million. If the trade is done after, they can split that dead money between the 2025 and 2026 seasons, which would be more logical for the Eagles.

Either way, this trade becomes a win-win, as the Eagles get future draft capital in return for Bryce Huff, who clearly isn’t a fit for their team. On the flip side, the Lions get an edge rusher that can be impactful in helping the pass-rush of the Lions dominate, and be the impactful player they have been looking for opposite Hutchinson.
