BREAKING: Chiefs Explain ‘Instant Synergy’ Between Mahomes and D-Hop

KC Chiefs Benefitting from 'Instant Synergy' Between Patrick Mahomes, DeAndre Hopkins

The Kansas City Chiefs will look to keep their undefeated season alive when they host the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

After the offense struggled to put up consistent numbers at the start of the season, they have begun to look like their usual selves in recent weeks. One of the biggest reasons for their recent uptick in production has been All-Pro receiver Deandre Hopkins, who the Chiefs acquired prior to Week 8.

Following their overtime win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, offensive coordinator Matt Nagy discussed how the connection between Patrick Mahomes and Hopkins was apparent as soon as he joined the team.

“There has been an instant synergy with Pat and DeAndre. Instant,” said Nagy. “Sometimes, those take a lot more for some guys than others, but he’s come in here and has just picked [things] up. When I say that, I don’t use the term lightly, but Pat and D-Hop are really thinking the same way on certain routes, especially in zone, which is crazy because it doesn’t normally always happen like that. It normally takes time.”

“From the first practice [or] second practice to our last game, there’s some stuff in there that they’re putting on tape that makes it tough,” Nagy continued.

In their win against Tampa Bay, Hopkins put up a season-high eight catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Prior to that performance, Hopkins had just seven catches for 87 yards and one touchdown through seven games.
