The Kansas City Chiefs have used the 2025 NFL Draft as a place to add more talent to this roster. Through the first two days of the draft, the Chiefs have done a great job supplementing the roster.

They got a franchise tackle in Josh Simmons before adding Omarr Norman-Lott, Ashton Gillotte, and Nohl Williams to the defensive side of the ball.

On Day 3, they went back to offense and nabbed an absolute steal. With the No. 133 overall pick, the Chiefs drafted Utah State WR Jalen Royals.

Chiefs Snag Jalen Royals in 4th Round

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler had Royals as a second or third-round prospect, so this is terrific value for the Chiefs.

He has outstanding acceleration with the burst to easily separate from cornerbacks. Royals can also do damage after the catch with the ball in his hands. Over the last two seasons at Utah State, Royals had 126 catches for 1,914 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns. At the combine, he ran a 4.42 40-yard dash with a 36″ vertical jump at his Pro Day.

The Chiefs made sure to have quality playmakers around Patrick Mahomes. They already have Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, Xavier Worthy, and Rashee Rice as the top three receivers on the team. Rice is still rehabbing from a knee injury but should be ready to roll for the 2025 season.

Brown missed the majority of the 2024 season with a sternoclavicular joint injury but was brought back on a one-year deal. Regardless, the Chiefs aren’t risking anything, and the addition of Royals showcases that.

He has all the tools needed to be a starter in this league, and with Brown set to hit free agency again after the season, there’s a clear pathway for Royals to easily jump into the starting lineup. Injuries are apart of them and Royals could be thrust into the starting lineup this fall. The Chiefs consistently find ways to find gems in the NFL Draft, and this selection is the latest example of a Brett Veach masterclass.
