HOT NEWS: Cowboys Trade For Breece Hall Rumor Gaining Steam Entering NFL Draft

Dallas Cowboys Trade For Breece Hall Rumor Gaining Steam Entering NFL Draft - Athlon Sports

Early on Thursday, NFL insider Josina Anderson confirmed that the New York Jets could be interested in trading running back Breece Hall:

Hall then sent Cowboys Twitter into a frenzy with one emoji: “🤞” as if to suggest he’s hoping to be anywhere but with the Jets in 2025.

And it didn’t stop there. Long-time Cowboys insider Clarence Hill quote-tweeted it with, “Something is in the works… Aaron Whitecotton let the Cowboys know.”

Whitecotton, of course, is the Cowboys’ new defensive line coach — and Breece’s former coach during his time with the Jets. So the relationship exists. The need for a home-run hitter at running back exists. But does the logic of a Hall trade really hold up?

Hall is one of the most tantalizing talents at the position in the entire league — explosive, dynamic, and surprisingly productive despite being stuck in one of the NFL’s worst offenses. But his injury history is well-documented, and he’s entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Translation: trading for Hall means paying twice — once with a pick, and again with an eventual extension… at the league’s most volatile and replaceable position.

With a historic 2025 draft class at running back and Day 2 and 3 talent overflowing, it’s hard to justify giving up significant capital. A 5th-for-6th round pick swap? Maybe. But anything beyond that feels rich.

Still… it’s draft week. Weird things happen. And one emoji might just be the opening scene of something bigger.

For now, this rumor’s on the board. But file it under: smoke, not fire.
