Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie spoke with reporters virtually on Monday about his contract extension negotiations and his hopes of staying with the franchise in the long term.
“I love the city. I love the coaches, love my teammates. I would love to be back with the team; as far as contract-wise, I mean, truly, I’m letting my agent deal with that. Like my sole focus this year, moving forward, is just football,” said McDuffie. “I love what this team has done for me, and I love what I’ve been able to do for them. So, if it’s a long-term deal, I’d be ecstatic. That’s for sure.”
McDuffie will enter the last season of his four-year, $14 million rookie contract. The Chiefs have a fifth-year option in 2026, when he will officially become an unrestricted free agent. He was named an All-Pro for the second consecutive season in 2024.
Kansas City’s front office, led by general manager Brett Veach, has made moves this offseason to reinforce the secondary following the departure of safety Justin Reid. The signing of cornerback Kristian Fulton and the return of Nazeeh Johnson add more depth and support around All-Pro McDuffie.
