Since the bombshell news broke that Micah Parsons was on the verge of securing a massive contract with the Dallas Cowboys, progress has stalled. With the 2025 NFL Draft commanding attention this week, the contentious issue of Parsons’ future with Jerry Jones‘ franchise has resurfaced.
Stalled negotiations? What the Cowboys are saying
Parsons is poised to land a blockbuster deal that would make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, but recent reports indicate no significant advancements in negotiations.
During a pre-draft press conference, the Cowboys addressed the ongoing contract talks with Parsons, revealing that the two sides remain “far apart” in reaching an agreement.

“It comes with the territory,” Jerry Jones told Jon Machota of The Athletic. “Right now, there is a difference in what we feel is the right number and what he feels is the right number.”
Micah Parsons is undeniably a generational talent, a cornerstone the Cowboys cannot afford to lose. Retaining him is a priority, as he could be a linchpin for the team’s defensive future.
With new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus joining the Cowboys, Parsons is central to his vision for the unit. A long-term contract would solidify his role and benefit the entire organization.
Last season, Parsons recorded 12 sacks and 43 tackles, joining an elite group of NFL legends with double-digit sacks in each of their first seasons. Only three other players-Hall of Famers Dwight Freeney, Derrick Thomas, and Reggie White-have achieved this feat.
At this juncture, one thing is clear: Jerry Jones and the Cowboys face a monumental task to secure a deal with one of the NFL’s premier talents. Letting Parsons walk without leaving a lasting legacy in Dallas would be an undeniable failure.
