Browns GM lays out why trading for the No. 1 pick is not in Cleveland's best interest - Yahoo Sports

The Cleveland Browns continue to have many different draft paths to choose from. One of those doesn’t appear to be trading up from the No. 2 overall pick to the top spot, however.

Browns GM Andrew Berry all but ruled out the idea of Cleveland bumping up from the second pick to the top spot in a potential trade with the Tennessee Titans. In a talk with local reporters during the NFL Owners Meetings over the weekend, Berry said this of the idea of trading up one spot.

“Candidly, I wouldn’t necessarily see that as likely. There are a number of players that we like in this draft relatively high.”

Aside from the Browns side of the equation, Berry dosed out some reality on the concept of moving up to the top spot.

“I think it’s pretty rare for the No. 1 overall pick to get traded, and I think some of that may be in part of who’s sitting at the top of the draft, and the other part of it might just be the cost of going two to one is a lot different than the cost of going from 76 to 75 for instance, and you have to weigh all of that in terms of how it fits in your overall offseason plan and what else you can do in the draft,” Berry said during his press meeting in Palm Beach this week.

The Titans are widely expected to take Miami QB Cam Ward with the first pick. The Browns could take Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, but Berry still seems quite open to taking Penn State EDGE Abdul Carter, Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter or even an unexpected maneuver at No. 2.
