Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes appeared to suffer a serious injury last week, needing help off the field after throwing a fourth-quarter touchdown.
But the Chiefs quarterback recovered quickly, returning to the game to lead his team to a 30-24 overtime win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mahomes downplayed the injury after the win, describing how he pushed back against head coach Andy Reid when he asked if Mahomes needed to exit the game.
“I thought he was joking,” Mahomes said. “He said it and I was like, ‘Come on. We’re not doing this again.’ He trusts me and once the doctors checked it out and I was able to get back and do the drops again, he let me get back on the field.”
But a new video has revived fears that Mahomes could be limited from the lingering effects of the injury. Reporter Matt Foster of KSHB in Kansas City shared a video of Mahomes at practice on Friday and pointed out that Mahomes had his left ankle “heavily taped.”

The video sparked some fear among fans, with some suggesting that the 8-0 Chiefs keep Mahomes off the field against the Denver Broncos this week.
“Why on earth would they not sit pat for a week.. Seems borderline malpractice,” one fan shared in a post on X.
“8-0. Why not give him a week of rest before Buffalo,” another wrote.
But Mahomes appears to have fully recovered from the ankle ailment. The Chiefs did not give him an injury designation heading into Sunday’s game against the Broncos.
