“If somebody has an offer for us, I think we’d be willing to listen.”
That’s what New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters when asked if the team would be willing to trade the No. 4 overall pick.
However, it appears that’s easier said than done right now.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said that this year teams might not be as concerned with trading up or trading down based on the talent available.
“You can’t walk into it saying, ‘I am definitely looking to trade back,’ because you don’t know what’s going to fall to you. I do think this year is going to be — I could be wrong — you’re going to see maybe a little less people maybe wanting to move up and offering enough to make it worth your while just because the draft is pretty leveled-out at a certain point,” Licht said. “You might be able to get the same level of player in the second round as you can in the fourth round at certain positions, so I think you’ll maybe see a little bit less of that.”
The Patriots need a starting left tackle, but some teams might have other positions that are more dire and they could want to jump the other franchises to get there. If that’s the case, New England is their best chance to move up in the draft.
But, based on what Licht said, it seems that the likely option is the Patriots will be on the clock at No. 4.
The Saints Seem To Be The Only Option
The New Orleans Saints currently hold the ninth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but they could be looking to move up, especially considering the latest news surrounding its starting quarterback.
On Friday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Carr is “dealing with a shoulder injury that threatens his availability for this season.” He is “weighing options, including the possibility of surgery.”
So, that means they could be looking to select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. However, will he still be there at No. 9?
That’s a risk that the Saints might not be willing to take. So, that’s one potential trade to be on the lookout for.
