The Kansas City Chiefs know that Travis Kelce’s time in the NFL is winding down. He will return for the 2025 season, but his future after next year is extremely murky.
Simply listening to Kelce talk about the future, it’s clear that he’s already interested in life after football. He loves the game too much to walk away now, but the Chiefs know that day is coming soon.
With that in mind, Kansas City will need to find a future at tight end for when he does walk away and retire.
A new interest from the Chiefs could be hinting that Kelce’s retirement is imminent. Whether it’s next offseason or if he plays one more year in 2026, Kansas City isn’t hiding the fact that they’re interested in more talent at the position.
As the 2025 NFL draft continues drawing closer, the Chiefs are showing interest in a dynamic tight end prospect.
During an appearance on “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams, Bowling Green tight end Harold Fannin Jr. revealed that he is set to meet with Kansas City before the draft.
In 2024 with the Falcons, Fannin put up a monstrous year. He caught 117 passes for 1,555 yards and 10 touchdowns. Those numbers are off the charts for a college tight end.
What kind of player could Fannin develop into at the NFL level? Lance Zierlein of NFL.com has compared him to New Orleans Saints’ tight end Juwan Johnson.
Bleacher Report scout Dame Parson offered a very high ceiling for Fannin in his scouting report.
“Overall, Harold Fannin Jr. projects as a highly functioning pass-catching tight end with alignment versatility,” Parson wrote. “Creative offensive play callers are best if you want to maximize his skill set to its fullest potential. He will be able to generate favorable matchups based on his alignment fluidity. In the right offensive system and role, he can be a top-3 receiving option at the next level.”
