‘Savvy’ or ‘Shrinkage’? Could Chiefs Fix Cowboys Ex Amari?

Kansas City Chiefs Star Travis Kelce Took Offseason Vacation to Plan Future with Taylor Swift - Athlon Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs have an uncanny knack of getting a player who many think doesn’t have much juice in the tank and making them a viable piece of the roster.

With Patrick Mahomes’ offensive weapons looking solid again, most were on the roster last season, too. Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Marquise Brown, and Juju Smith-Schuster will all be tasked with running it back in 2025.

But what if the Chiefs want to add more to Mahomes’ arsenal and give more depth to the receiver room? Granted, a rookie selection in the draft is one way to go, but what about a savvy veteran who most think is done in the league?

Amari Cooper, who was with the Buffalo Bills last season after being a midseason trade in 2024, didn’t have the best of times, and is still a free agent.

Is he an option?

“NFL teams are apparently concerned with Cooper’s disappearing act to close 2024, when joining Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills somehow made him less impactful than his time with the Cleveland Browns,” CBS Sports writes. “Going on 31, it’s possible he’s just running out of steam. But you’d be hard-pressed to find a savvier and more accomplished route runner at this stage of the offseason.”

Cooper was largely a no-show for the Bills, particularly in the playoffs with just six catches for 41 yards in three games, so that is likely a big reason why many teams are cold on the Pro Bowler.

That “disappearing act”? Smart Dallas Cowboys fans get it … as CowboysCountry.com broke the story on that issue – “Shrinkage,” we called it – that led to his cheap trade dump to Cleveland.
