The Cleveland Browns have the second overall pick in the NFL draft, and have a big need at quarterback. That is clear for everyone to see from an outside perspective of the franchise.
However, it seems the players within the organization agree with that sentiment. On a Browns radio show, star defensive end Myles Garrett talked about how any successful team needs a young quarterback.
“Any team that’s going to go far needs a quarterback and one that’s young, can learn and is willing to be patient with the process,” Garrett said.
With the current quarterbacks on the roster being an injured Deshaun Watson and Kenny Pickett, it seems clear Garrett thinks the team needs a new young quarterback.
With how weak this quarterback class seems to be compared to last year, its hard to imagine the Browns getting a legitimate starting option beyond the second overall pick.
That means that Garrett seemingly is indicating the team should take Shedeur Sanders with the second overall pick in the NFL draft.
With Cam Ward likely going to the Tennessee Titans, Sanders should be the best quarterback option available for the team.
Sanders would bring much more excitement to the franchise next season than if they drafted a Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter and started Kenny Pickett at quarterback.
Unless the team plans on tanking again and taking a quarterback like Arch Manning next season, there seems to be no real reason to skip quarterback at second overall given their drastic need, unless the Browns brass really doesn’t believe in Sanders as a prospect.
There have been a lot of mixed signals surrounding Sanders to the Browns as of late. Originally, reports suggested the Browns were very interested in drafting Sanders second overall, but no reports are suggesting they prefer Abdul Carter.
While Carter would be an amazing player to have across from Garrett, the offense would struggle mightily, which wouldn’t help the team much with turning things around.
Current reports are suggesting the Giants are the favorite to land Sanders with the third pick in the draft, but it will be interesting to see if things shift back towards Sanders to the Browns as the draft approaches.
Overall, while it seems Sanders can go to either the Browns or Giants at this point, Myles Garrett and Browns fans want an upgrade at quarterback, so Cleveland having the power with the second pick in the draft has the final say on where Sanders goes.
