Lions bolster offensive line depth with re-signing of veteran guard

DETROIT — The Detroit Lions continue to retain key pieces of their depth, announcing Friday afternoon that they have re-signed offensive guard Kayode Awosika.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Over his three seasons with the Lions, Awosika has appeared in 36 games and been a valuable part of the team’s offensive line rotation. He has also stepped in as a starter on several occasions when injuries occurred.

Last season, Awosika saw time on both offense and special teams, appearing in 11 games. Offensively, he played in five games with two starts.

For his efforts, Pro Football Focus gave him an overall offensive grade of 51.3, including a run-blocking grade of 52.5 and a pass-blocking grade of 59.4. On special teams, he logged 62 snaps.

The Lions acquired the 26-year-old lineman in September 2022, signing him off the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad. Awosika entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Buffalo in 2021, signing with the Eagles.

With Kevin Zeitler now with the Tennessee Titans, Awosika is expected to be in the mix during training camp as a potential candidate to fill the right guard opening, competing with Christian Mahogany.
