BREAKING : Chiefs Trade for Hopkins Means New Number and Role

Chiefs' DeAndre Hopkins breaks silence on trade

DeAndre Hopkins swapped the Tennessee Titans for the Kansas City Chiefs as he becomes Patrick Mahomes’ latest weapon for an offense that has struggled for consistency through six weeks.

With the receiver room getting badly bitten by the injury bug, the Chiefs skill-position players resembled a skeleton crew, yet Mahomes, along with the help of a stellar defense, has managed to start the year 6-0.

Now, with Hopkins in their ranks, the thought is that there will be a serious uptick in performance from Andy Reid’s offense going forward.

But what does Hopkins expect his role to be within Reid’s system?

“Wherever I’m needed,” Hopkins said. “That’s on coaches to put me where I need to be but wherever I’m needed.”

With Hopkins linking up with Mahomes, it is expected that the pair will see some serious work ion the field, maybe beginning with the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8.

Chiefs fantasy football predictions after DeAndre Hopkins trade

Reid first suggested he wasn’t sure if DeAndre would suit up in his new No. 8 jersey. Late in the week, though, he coach said, “Why wait?”

So here we go … and the receiver can’t wait to start catching passes from No. 15.

“One of the best to do it,” Hopkins added. “I’m just looking forward to going out there playing with him. Obviously, been a fan of his, so I can’t wait.”

With the Chiefs aiming for an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl title, the injury listed has continued to pile up, yet as good teams do, Kansas City still manages to win.

While Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown are done for the season, Juju Smith-Schuster is expected to return sooner rather than later, and this will give Mahomes another option.

As Hopkins is to get the green light against the Raiders, we imagine Reid trying to get the All-Pro involved early and often to help him settle.

And once he does, the Chiefs offense might begin to click into gear.
