Shedeur Sanders, Abdul Carter, Cam Ward, Travis Hunter all could have their NFL draft dreams altered by rumored deal
We are a month away from the 2025 NFL draft and very little is for sure about the top of the first round. Most believe that the Tennessee Titans have locked in on QB Cam Ward but there are still rumors that they would be open to trading the pick. Those two things do not line up with each other.
The Cleveland Browns hold the second spot with social media arguing whether the best player (either Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter) or the best-remaining quarterback (Shedeur Sanders) should be the pick.
The Browns still need a veteran starter at quarterback with options starting to dwindle.
Of note, the 2025 NFL draft is unique in that none of the first-round picks have been traded, yet. With the Titans potentially open to moving the first pick, the New York Giants have been rumored to want to move up. With everyone in the organization on the hot seat, an aggressive move makes sense.
A Browns-Giants trade could make sense for both teams. New York ensures they get their quarterback of the future while Cleveland adds selections to do the same later.
Browns-Giants trade
New York gets picks #2, 94, 192, 216
Cleveland gets picks #3, 34
The Browns would have to have a much lower grade on Sanders to make this deal. This trade also assumes that Ward is off the board. Cleveland selects Carter or Hunter (have heard both are still in play in Berea) and moves up from their extra late third to an early second-round pick.
Those back-to-back picks in the second round can be used to select QB Jalen Milroe (or with a slight move up to do so) or surround the team with even more talent. Trading down one spot to select the same player they would have with the second overall pick and acquiring a much higher selection on Day 2 is worth it.
For the Giants, securing Sanders and actually adding to their number of picks is a win. While it may look like an overpay, New York ensures that they get their quarterback of the future instead of allowing another team to come up and get him in a trade with Cleveland.
