Every move the Dallas Cowboys make this offseason is cause for discussion and debate. While Jerry Jones‘ team has indeed generated some moves in free agency, some think they are far from high-impact.
Are the Dallas Cowboys afraid?
So opines Garrett Podell of CBS Sports, who not only believes the Cowboys are big “losers” in this free agency, but also believes they are “afraid” to make a big move.
“The Dallas Cowboys are still scared to make big moves in free agency despite having the cap space to do so,” Podell wrote.
“They either re-signed most of their own guys, or they went bargain bin hunting, mostly on ex-first-round picks who haven’t hit in their previous stops. The Cowboys restructured the contracts of both quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to open up more cap space in 2025 and push more money into the future, but they haven’t done anything of note with that cap relief in the present.”
The Dallas Cowboys’ strongest move
So far, their most valuable signing has come from Dante Fowler Jr, a Quarterbacks scout who was paid $8 million to leave the Washington Commanders and return to Dallas.
The Cowboys could still get former All-Pro Wide Receiver Stefon Diggs or Cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. but they seem to lag behind other NFL teams.
Compared to their divisional rivals, the outlook looks bleak, as the Philadelphia Eagles have indeed beefed up to try to defend their Super Bowl crown, while Washington is undoubtedly a very dangerous opponent.
So it’s now or never for the Dallas Cowboys, free agency is a necessary evil they have to go through to compete and make their fans happy.
