BREAKING : Cowboys, Patriots could make unexpected quarterback trade to shake up QB depth charts

Cowboys, Patriots could make unexpected quarterback trade to shake up QB depth charts image

The New England Patriots have a second-year quarterback that might be expendable.

No, not Drake Maye.

The Pats have former sixth-rounder Joe Milton on their depth chart, and with Maye looking like the face of the franchise, New England could opt to seek to return solid value on Milton.

The Dallas Cowboys are one of the teams interested in the strong-armed athlete, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“One team to potentially watch is the Dallas Cowboys because they are looking for a good backup,” Fowler said. “A young backup with upside they may not get in the draft, maybe they get in a trade.”

Reports indicate that the Patriots are seeking a third-round pick for Milton, which would be quite the upgrade in a return one year after drafting him in the sixth.

Milton got to play most of Week 18 for the Patriots, leading them to a win that lost them the No. 1 pick in the draft.

He did it in style, though, completing 22-of-29 passes for 241 yards and a TD while rushing for another score.

New England could opt, of course, to keep a cheap, promising backup behind Maye in case of injury. But if the Pats are tempted to essentially turn Milton into talent at another position, the Cowboys might be ready to pounce and get Dak Prescott a long-term backup.
