It has been the general consensus amongst draft experts that the Browns would be interested in bringing in either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward based on how the board played out at No. 1 overall.
But what if the Browns opted to wait on quarterback and fill some other needs on their roster?
That is at least a possibility based on the team opting to bring in Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough on a top 30 scheduled visit sometime in the foreseeable future, first reported by Mary Kay-Cabot of Cleveland.com on Friday.
Shough notably received a significant amount of praise for his Senior Bowl performance and his testing at the NFL Combine. As a result, he has quickly risen up draft boards and could now find himself as a Day 2 draft pick.
With the No. 2 pick in the draft, the Browns can’t afford to get it wrong with such a valuable pick. So if the organization isn’t exactly sold on any of the quarterback options at the top of the draft, the smart move may be for the organization to trade down and out of their draft position to gain further resources in the future.
In that case, maybe they take a flyer on someone like Shough with their second or even their third-round pick if Shough is available at that point.
Only time will tell what the Browns end up doing with their top pick. But Shough at least appears to be on the Browns’ radar, which is certainly interesting, to say the least.
