The Kansas City Chiefs went through 2024 with Carson Wentz as Patrick Mahomes backup. However, Wentz could be playing elsewhere next season. The Chiefs signed Gardner Minshew to a one-year deal this offseason to backup Mahomes.

Wentz was once one of the brightest young stars in the NFL but has not found much success since the early years of his career. He made one start for the Chiefs last season, week 18, when the Chiefs lost 38-0 to the Denver Broncos. Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot noted that there is “mutual interest” between Wentz and the Cleveland Browns.

“The Browns and Wentz, 32, ‘definitely have mutual interest’ this season on him becoming their veteran bridge quarterback, a league source told cleveland.com,” Cabot wrote. “It’s apparently contingent upon them signing Russell Wilson, who visited last week.”

Wentz was an MVP candidate in his second season before an injury knocked him out. Nick Foles stepped in and went on a legendary run to win the Super Bowl. However, Wentz has since then struggled to establish himself as a great quarterback. In nine seasons he is 47-46-1 as a starter. However, the Browns may not have many options besides him.

Even though Wentz is not good, signing him on a one-year deal could be the only option that makes sense if they cannot land Wilson. If the Browns are not in love with the top quarterbacks in this draft Wentz could serve as a bridge quarterback, and even if the Browns pick Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward in the draft, they may want to bring in a veteran to pair with one of them.
