REPORT: Chiefs sign cornerback Robert Rochell to one-year deal

Competition on special teams is coming to Kansas City.

On Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Kansas City Chiefs have signed free-agent cornerback Robert Rochell. The agreement is reportedly a one-year contract.

Rochell’s career got off to a great start after joining the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The Central Arkansas product appeared in 11 games (five starts) and recorded an interception. Unfortunately, he was placed on injured reserve late in his rookie season.

Since his first year in the league, Rochell has never again found his footing on defense. The Rams released him in their final roster cuts in 2023.

From there, Rochell bounced between practice squads of the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers before landing with the Green Bay Packers. He has alternated between the Packers’ practice squad and active roster for the past season and a half.

While Rochell has played only a single defensive snap over the past two seasons, his play on special teams has kept him on the league’s fringes. In 11 games for the Packers in 2024, Rochell played 121 snaps on special teams.

Time will tell if he is able to gain the trust of Chiefs’ special teams coordinator Dave Toub to stick in Kansas City.
