When the Kansas City Chiefs signed speedy receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown last offseason, the excitement for what he could bring to the offense was palpable.
After a strong training camp that saw Brown hit the ground running, he was ready to get down to business in the regular season…but then the football gods intervened.
Brown would miss the majority of the season, suffering a sternoclavicular joint injury in the first preseason game, and wouldn’t return until Week 16 against the Houston Texans.
Brown posted 45 and 46 yards in his two regular-season games before gaining 50 yards from five catches in the Chiefs’ three playoff games. So, he only played five games for his new team.
That left a sour taste in the mouth, and being a free agent, the Chiefs made sure to run to back with Brown, and he made it clear he wanted a return, too.
“I knew all along I wanted to be back,” Brown said. “They voiced their opinions of wanting me back, and we had some unfinished business. I had a great start to my camp and getting hurt it was just, we all wanted to see it come together. So glad we got it done.”
So hopefully Brown gets a full run at it in 2025, and while he did manage all offseason to get acclimated to Patrick Mahomes and the offense, he only has a small sample size with real NFL bullets flying.
Still, having Brown return is good business for the Chiefs as they saw what he is capable of, now it is about doing it for longer, and this time, hopefully the football gods stay away.
The Chiefs have made several solid moves this offseason, but bringing back Brown could be the best for the offense.
Why? Because he’s got unfinished business.
