Of all the moves the Detroit Lions needed to make to strengthen their depth this offseason, keeping defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad wasn’t just on the list — it was one they got done.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Muhammad has agreed to a one-year deal to remain with the Lions for the 2025 season.
The soon-to-be eight-year veteran emerged as a bright spot for Detroit’s defense last season, which was decimated by injuries to its front seven. Muhammad joined the Lions’ practice squad last October, nearly a month and a half after his release from the Dallas Cowboys — where he participated only in training camp.
In Detroit, Muhammad became a key part of the Lions’ defensive line rotation. Over nine games, including two starts, he recorded 11 tackles — four for a loss — along with eight pressures, five quarterback hits, three sacks, and one forced fumble. He also logged 19 snaps on special teams.
With a full offseason program and training camp in Detroit, Muhammad could develop into an even more valuable piece under new defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard and new defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers.
Muhammad joins Marcus Davenport, Levi Onwuzurike, and Pat O’Connor as some of the key depth pieces the Lions have retained along the defensive line this offseason.
The former Miami (Fla.) standout entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, where he briefly crossed paths with then-tight ends coach — and now his head coach in Detroit — Dan Campbell.
