The No. 1 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft looks like it’s coming into focus. Right now, it’s good news for the New England Patriots’ chances of landing an elite prospect.

In a recent episode of his podcast, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said that Miami quarterback Cam Ward is “destined” to be drafted No. 1 overall.

“I’d be really surprised right now if Cam Ward is not the No. 1 overall pick,” Schefter said.

The ESPN insider noted that the Tennessee Titans’ actions this offseason have pointed toward them going with a quarterback.

Schefter noted that Tennesse hasn’t “entertained any real offers” for the No. 1 pick. However, he added that it’s possible that a team like the New York Giants could also go all-in by trading up to No. 1 to take Ward.

Ward going No. 1 would be good news for the Patriots. They don’t need a quarterback. Instead, they likely have their eyes on prize prospects like Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter or Colorado CB/WR Travis Hunter with the No. 4 pick.

If two quarterbacks come off the board in the top three, that would mean the Patriots would get a shot to take at least one of those two.

Ward would be one quarterback. All the Patriots would need after that is for a team to be enamored with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The Browns at No. 2 and Giants at No. 3 are certainly potential landing spots for Sanders. If that pans out, then New England should be celebrating.
