The Kansas City Chiefs are attempting to work their way back to Super Bowl contention, having finished the season with a 17-3 record.
Kansas City has appeared in three straight Super Bowls, having been recently defeated by the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22 last season.
As the Chiefs turn the page and begin their trek back to the playoffs, they made a couple of interesting moves during the offseason.
In order to create a more manageable cap situation for the team, the Chiefs have restructured the contracts of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and defensive tackle Chris Jones, per Field Yates.
Jones’ new cap hit this year is $12 million while Mahomes’ cap hit is $28 million. With the move, the Chiefs created $36 million in cap space overnight.
Jones is coming off his ninth season in the NFL, all of which have been with the Kansas City Chiefs. Last season, Jones recorded one forced fumble, five sacks and 37 tackles.
Throughout his career in Kansas City, Jones has established himself as one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL, recording two interceptions, three fumble recoveries, 13 forced fumbles, 37 pass deflections, 80.5 sacks and 310 tackles.
Here’s a look at a couple of players who have agreed to join Jones and Mahomes in Kansas City: cornerback Kristian Fulton, running back Elijah Mitchell and offensive tackle Jaylon Moore.
